A Study on Stable Population in Korea

Abstract
The stable population means a closed population of one sex subject to unchanging fertility and mortality schedules which ultimately attains a fixed age composition and a constant rate of increase. The ultimate age composition and rate of increase are wholly determined by the specified fixed mortality and fertility schedules and are independent of the age composition of the initial population. This stady compares the real population with theoretical population by calculating korea¢¥s stable population since 1970 to provide the basic data necessary for population analysis. The results are as following :
1) The Constant Rate of a stable population is decreasing at the rate of 22.2¢¶in 1970, 11.8¢¶in 1975, 9.2¢¶in 1980, -10.1¢¶in 1985, -14.1¢¶in 1990.
2) Average Length of Generation is 29.05 in 1970, 28.26 in 1975, 28.27 in 1980, 26.37 in 1985, 27.15 in 1990.
3) The Net Reproduction Rate dropped to level of 1.0 since 1985 due to the decreasing birth rate.
4) Intrinsic Birth Rate decreased from 32.4¢¶in 1970, 23.5¢¶in 1975, 21.2¢¶in 1980, 10.7¢¶in 1980, 10.7¢¶in 1985, to 8.0¢¶in 1990, whereas Intrinsic Death Rate shows 10.2¢¶in 1970, 117¢¶in 1975, 12.0¢¶in 1980, 20.8¢¶in 1985, 22.1¢¶in 1990.
